Braidwood Primary School Today
We pride ourselves on having a very committed team of teaching
and non-teaching staff. Parents are very supportive and we benefit
greatly from the involvement of an interested School Board and a
very active Parent Teachers Association.
The school is bright with attractive displays of pupils' work.
There is a calm, purposeful environment and our pupils are encouraged
towards increasing independence within their learning. Our staff
implement effective strategies to make learning as interesting and
meaningful for the children as possible.
We consistently strive to give our pupils as rich an education
as possible. In line with Scottish Executive 5-14 Guidelines we
provide an interesting, stimulating curriculum in the key areas
of Mathematics, Language, Expressive Arts including Art/Design,
Drama, Music and Physical Education, Environmental Studies, Health
and Religious & Moral Education. We also implement a programme
throughout the school focusing on the children's Personal and Social
Development.
In recent years, our pupils have consistently achieved in excess
of 90% in relation to National Assessments in reading, writing and mathematics.
We have a very active Pupil Council which
provides
the children with an opportunity to
raise, discuss and take forward
initiatives of their choice. The Pupil
Councils reps, P.3-7, are elected by their classmates following
campaigning. The Pupil Council were responsible
for developing the idea of a nature
garden which now has pride of
place at the entrance to the school. The
pupil council also initiated
the idea of positive play games which pupils access at
breaks.
Our pupils participate in a variety of extra-curricular
clubs including football, netball, recorder and craft.
